Whitianga Breakwater

Completed in late 2022, the Whitianga Breakwater project was a significant marine infrastructure development supporting the expansion of the Whitianga Marina. Wilson Group worked closely with Heron Construction to deliver a wide range of durable, high-performance precast components tailored for coastal conditions.

The scope included 127 No. 180mm thick precast panels, 124 No. 330mm wide precast beams, 62 No. 200mm thick precast deck slabs, 128 No. precast collars, and 64 No.precast pile headstocks.

All precast products were water-cured for 7 days in accordance with NZS 3109:1997 (Concrete Construction), ensuring optimal durability and strength.

Innovation

The panels were cast with decorative motifs using rubber formliner molds, adding architectural character to the structure. A specialized marine-grade concrete mix with 8% micro-silica was used throughout the project to enhance resistance to chloride ingress and prolong service life in aggressive marine environments. This project is a testament to Wilson Precast’s technical capability, quality assurance, and commitment to delivering reliable, long-lasting solutions in demanding marine settings.
